ASUS is redefining the game with gaming laptops thanks to breakthrough technology. The most notable product is the Mothership.
Since the launch of the first prototype, ASUS has shown a different approach to the traditional look of a gaming laptop, with a powerful configuration that can be carried away with the ability to change unique uses. Many people think this is a crazy idea, but ASUS ROG seriously thinks that this is the future of gaming laptops.
We all know that it is possible to bring a similar configuration on the PC on a gaming laptop but to be able to bring it comfortably is not possible. Major brands, including ASUS ROG, have launched such products, but their huge size comes with heavy charging. In addition, when used with external gear and monitors is also very inconvenient. ASUS has also used solutions from Nvidia to make Zephyrus series compact, lightweight, thin with enough performance to do multi-tasking professionally but it knows that, to gaming laptops go beyond the inherent limitations. The best way is to change the traditional clamshell design of a laptop to release heat dissipation, while arranging the internal components in a reasonable way.
ASUS ROG also takes a long time to bring to the Mothership despite the current price up to 180 million, but compared to what the device offers, including the unique, it is worthy. Not to mention owning Mothership, you are holding the future of one of the most developed industries for many years. With Mothership, users can do more than just a laptop with a detachable keyboard, full of connectivity technologies and the equivalent of an overclockable PC. ASUS also presented a form of “dream desk” revolving around the capabilities of the Mothership. The way ASUS has built it for Mothership will also help it gradually eliminate the “super big, super huge, super heavy” laptop desktop replacement.
Removing a keyboard is not a new idea, but no one can do it for a gaming laptop. ASUS does not make a touchscreen like hybrid laptops, but focus on putting all the components behind the screen with the right parameters for gaming. The Mothership has a relatively large size with a 17.3-inch screen, 29.9mm thick, still quite big to be able to bring, not to mention the fact that there are two chargers that provide power for the entire body. However, this is still a solution for the future, in the long run there will be lower configuration versions, thinner, lighter. Expanding the air circulation space on the back, ASUS has more conditions to equip a very powerful configuration, comparable to the PC and allow the machine to be significantly thinner than the original prototype.
In terms of configuration, the machine uses Intel ® Core ™ i9-9980HK processor, 64GB RAM DDR4 2666MHz, 17.3 inches screen with a lot of resolution options with 144Hz, 3ms refresh rate and 100% sRGB color, go with NVIDIA® GeForce RTX ™ 2080 graphics card (Boost Clock: 1880MHz, 200W) 8GB GDDR6 VRAM. Configuration is more than enough to play today’s top games in Full HD. In addition, the 144Hz screen has been the highlight of ASUS since 2018 and the future is likely to have a 240Hz version like the newly launched Strix Scar III.
Mothership is equipped with 17.3 inches screen, Full HD resolution, 100% sRGB and 144Hz refresh rate, the response time is 3ms
Because of a lot of space for the hardware behind, the Mothership’s screen border cannot be as thin as the recent ROG Strix, Zephyrus.
Front speaker strip is oriented, which is better than leaving the speaker at the bottom of the keyboard like most clamshell laptops today.
The Mothership has a fairly thick body that comes with a flexible, easy-to-use stand with smooth rotating hinges.
It has up to 2 charging pins to maximize the performance of the device with the full range of current connectivity ports
The removable keyboard incorporates a battery capable of operating for more than 7 hours.
